Learn to Say NO

Saying no for some people may feel like one of the most difficult things to do.

Maybe you’re afraid that your friends will get mad at you or that you will be perceived as a mean person. Whatever the reason saying no gives you a level of anxiety.

However, even if saying no seems super difficult it is something that is necessary.

Saying no means respecting your boundaries. It means listening to your body and putting yourself first. It means SELF-CARE.

Some ways you can say no:

  • NO. Simple and to the point.
  • Unfortunately, this is not for me right now.Β It softens the blow a bit and gives somewhat of an explanation (even though you don’t need to explain your no).
  • I’m not interested.Β Truthful. You don’t have to say it with an attitude but you can definitely say it.
  • Let me think about and I’ll get back to you. If you’re actually unsure of your decision this will give you time to think about the facts and give a solid reply.

The key is honesty. No matter how you say it you want to make sure that you are truthful and that your boundaries are respected.

Remember: You have a right to say no.Β  Your no is definitive and no one can take that away from you.

Have you had difficulty saying no? What ways have you overcome your fear or anxiety of saying no?

Xoxo,

Mara
